Nissan's first crossover SUV, the Murano combines the desirable attributes of a truck-based SUV, such as cargo capacity, ride height and available all-wheel drive, with the refinement, handling, and ride comfort of a sedan. Handling is the Murano's prime attribute. This SUV stays impressively flat through curves. There's little body motion or roll even in quick turns, and the Murano feels solid. Ride quality is pleasing as the standard suspension cushions quite a bit of roughness. The 2006 Nissan Murano gets a number of upgrades for the new model year, including a restyled front grille, brushed aluminum roof rail (SE), chrome accent side sills (SL and SE) and lower front bumper, and LED rear taillights. A standard 7-inch LCD color display, audio system with mp3 capability and an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) have also been added for 2006. The Murano performs with splendid passion. Acceleration is vigorous, and passing at highway speeds produces no unusual sensations. The gearless CVT operates seamlessly and delivers plenty of immediate energy with no fuss; it ranks among the best. Engine noise is minimal, but a high whine emerges if you keep your foot to the floor. |
The Murano is named after the elegant sculpted glass art that comes from the islands near Venice, a tribute to the dramatic exterior and interior styling of the Murano.Nissan says the Murano's wraparound surface construction features a sloping hood line and a steeply raked windshield.
